2nd graders discover the Northern Lights!

During these days, second graders have had the opportunity to share some Science classes with Mareena, our linguistic volunteer from Finland. Not only she has helped us in the classroom conversations and has spent a good time with us, but also, she has explained to us many things about Joensuu (her hometown), her country and culture, language and traditions. We have even talked about her neighbour: Santa Claus and his reindeers!

In one of these conversations, Mareena has explained to us that in Finland everyone can see the
Northern Lights. As we don’t know what they are, we have been investigating and searching together. At the end, we have discovered that Northern Lights are wonderful and beautiful, but what really has surprised us is that they can also be seen from space!
That vision is a really fabulous show!

We give you a link where you can discover it by yourself.

Now, we say bye-bye to Mareena, but we want to thank her for everything! It was wonderful to share some classes with her!
She left us a really nice message that we want to share with all of you!:

"I truly enjoyed sharing some piece of Finnish culture and nature with the children when everyone was so interested in the topic. It was amazing to see how much they already knew about Santa Claus, the North Pole etc. The whole class was full of raised hands and questions came one after another. One lesson was clearly not enough time for discovering Finland!"
